Alhambra Heaven and the Muses

Beautiful Alhambra...Nothing old, nothing new, nothing borrowed nothing few. From the exterior a modest envelop of different beliefs, different ages, different people and also the source of inspiration to many throughout the ages. The remarkable exhibition piece with its intricate interior design for the Expo 1851 in Crystal Palace and thus the new source of inspiration to well-known Owen Jones, who studied Alhambra tiles in order to develop a new style in British language during 19th century. A place where architecture meets the nature with serenity; the green, the water, the palaces, all were the representative of the heaven that humanbeings were thought to experience during the afterlife. For that, maybe, the chosen eternal resting place of the Isabella the Catholic who wished to be burried in the modest monastery of San Franciso in the gardens of Alhambra. A masterpiece of architectural materiality and the divine spirituality.  "One needs to look no further than his croquis of the Alhambra to encounter the genesis for those continious themes, fusing natural and artificial landscape, organizing space through courtyards, articulating volumes by contradicting their weight and playfully layering light and shadow towards abstraction." Alvaro Siza (from the exhibition inside the palace complex)

Alhambra, a piece of heaven where the muses of the creation hide in tranquil waters for those who wish to seek the revelation both spiritually and artistically...
