The Bee Hive
The Universal Exposition of 2015 held in Milano hosted numbers of
intriguing designs, just as its predecessors have done throughout EXPO's
more-than-a-century-long history. "The Beehive", the pavilion of UK,
supported the theme of the exposition which was "Feeding the Planet,
Energy for Life" by focusing on the threat of extinction that the honey
bees were facing in the countryside. It was designed by sculptor Wolfgang
Buttress and demonstrates the movement of the bees perfectly with its aluminium
and steel lattice structure including 170,000 pieces with 1000 LED lights. Although it was conceived in the lure of the
EXPO, it was reassembled in 2016 in London's Kew Gardens and awaits its
visitors in its silent buzz.
